A short post today but an important one I think.

A great number of you will be either studying at school or at university and will be wondering how to get that first job in Formula 1. There really are very few advertised graduate jobs in F1 unfortunately and so unless you have managed to organise yourself a work placement then getting a job in F1 straight after studying is very difficult.

I’ve spoken before about how to get round this problem (don’t despair!) by breaking down barriers and using stepping stones. I usually recommend that you assume that you WON’T get a job in F1 straightaway and that you’ll need to work your way up but you should always be prepared just in case an opportunity arises.

Looking through this week’s vacancies however, I came across a graduate job advert at Mercedes GP which sounded ideal. It’s not often that they come up but I thought I would share it and record it as an example and to prove that they do exist!

The advert is for a graduate aerodynamicist and it details only very loose requirements in terms of qualifications and experience. It is a very open advert, I imagine to leave it to you to put yourself and your relevant skills forward.

The advert is as below in case the link does not work or expires :

It’s perhaps already too late to apply for this particular job but that isn’t really the point of this post. Many of you might not be in a position to apply but the real point I’m making here is that you need to be ready just in case. Competition will be fierce if you see another opportunity which you are ready for and you’ll need to be at the top of your game.

Don’t assume that opportunities like this are around every corner but keep a look out just in case and be ready to put you best case forward about why you deserve a job in F1.

Best of luck.

        will you?

        1. Hi Azhagusiva. Thanks for your message. It’s difficult for me to guide people individually as almost 1000 people a day come to my site. It wouldn’t be fair for me to do that. I hope then that my blog and book can be that guidance for everyone. Does that make sense?

  2. Is no one as excited about this post as me?? Wow thanks mate for posting this, you can vigorously search weeks on end and may not ever see anything open. Keep on blogging lad, its very much appreciated!!!

    1. No problem Brandon. Thanks very much for the good feedback!

  3. I really look forward to each mail that i receive from you and they never disappoint me. thank you for sharing these valuable points and keeping young aspirants as myself motivated 🙂

    1. A pleasure Shravan, I’m glad it was useful for you
